Shri Ram Charan Museum of Indology in Jaipur, Rajasthan is notably striking in its representation of the biggest thematic collection of Folk and Tantra Art, a splendid treasure trove of textile and domestic crafts, paintings, sculptures, terracotta, manuscripts, archives, numismatics & philatics, minerals & gemstones, astronomy & astrology and much more, all under a single roof by the endeavour of only on man- Late Acharya Ram Charan Sharma ‘Vyakul’.

Today the vast collection of SRC Museum of Indology includes hundred thousand objects divided in eighteen sections and several sub-sections. There are more than one thousand paintings based on one subject that is serpentology. It is the largest collection of its kind on this subject.

SRC Museum of IndologyThere are more than fifteen thousand manuscripts, illustrated and un illustrated, written on paper, birch bark, palm leaf and cardamom rind. Six catalogues of this outstanding collection have been published and other are under preparation. Other valuable collection is of tantric objects and manuals for practicing Tantricism. Eight thousand historical documents, preserved in the archival section, are already under print.

A large collection of paintings represents work done in more than one medium: water colour, lacquer and oil paint on cloth, skin, paper, glass, wood and ivory. These paintings display variety-portraits of kings, nobles and saints, Ramayana, Mahabharata, acts of Lord Krishna, Ragas and Raginis, Barahmasa and Nayikabheda. The vast collection of folk paintings include pictures of gods and goddesses such as Ganesh & Lakshmi and birds, animals and objects of architecture. SRC Museum of Indology is also a treasure of house for textile design-woven, embroidered, printed & dyed fabrics.
